END OF THE WAR/HIROSHIMA PHOTO PACKAGE (FILES) This file photo taken 15 August 1945 shows Japanese prisoners of war at Guam, bowing their heads after hearing Emperor Hirohito make the announcement of Japan’s unconditional surrender, ending World War II. Following the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan surrendered 02 September 1945 to Allied forces, officially ending World War II, bringing down the curtain on the costliest conflict in history.
